OSRAM's new Pro Torch Wins Auto Express Mini Test
The 1200 is the top model in OSRAM's new Pro Torch range, and it packs a proper punch with an output of 1,200 lumens - that's the same as the most powerful halogen car headlights. Unlike a car's unit though, the OSRAM'S can be concentrated into a narrow beam, which is 30cm wide when five metres away. The company claims this means it will illuminate up to 680 metres away on a clear night, and in our test it was clearly reflecting off traffic signs in unlit country roads from a 500m distance.
This is too bright for close-up work in an engine bay, so a twist of the head widens the beam to turn it into a spotlight, while a series of clicks on the power button scrolls through four settings including an 'eco' mode, where the 4,000mAh Li-on battery will last for 48 hours and is still bright enough to illuminate close-up work.
It might be a little more expensive than the Sealey, but it feels worth every penny.
